This seven-storied structure is an architectural wonder. It stands at a height of 64.5m. It was constructed using layers of bricks. No cement was used in the process. This is the reason it is one of most well preserved prehistoric structures in the world. Just like most traditional Chinese architecture, bracket style was used in building the pagoda. Weather, war, and earthquakes have destroyed it but it still has its beauty.
This pagoda got its name from the ancient times. There was division in Buddhists at one time. One group had no problem eating meat. They run out of meat for consumption at one time. They searched for meat but without any luck. A group of bid wild geese flew by them. One of the Buddhists prayed to the Bodhisattva to forgive them and permit them to have meat for supper.
As soon as he finished praying, the leader of the goose broke his wings and fell to the ground. The Buddhists saw this as a sign for them to become more religious. They constructed the Big Wild Goose Pagoda at the place the goose fell.
