Book your transfer before you board your flight. At Pudong, the taxi queue can be 30–45 minutes long, especially after evening peak arrivals. Having a driver pre-booked means you bypass the queue entirely.

Know your terminal before arrival. PVG has Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. International flights typically arrive at T2, but always confirm your terminal when booking — it affects the pickup point.

Save your driver’s contact number offline. Chinese mobile internet can be slow or restricted without a VPN. Screenshot your booking confirmation before landing so you have it without needing data.

Don’t rush — immigration at PVG takes time. Peak-hour immigration can take 45 minutes or more. Your driver tracks your flight and waits for free. There’s no penalty for delays outside your control.

The metro is great — but not for everyone. The Maglev and Metro Line 2 are efficient options if you’re traveling light and during operating hours (roughly 6:30am–10:30pm). But if it’s late, you have luggage, or you’re with kids — a private transfer is simply better.

Set up WeChat before you land. WeChat is China’s primary messaging app and how most services communicate. Download and verify it with your phone number before departure — it makes coordination much smoother.

Always agree the price before you get in a taxi. If you choose a metered taxi, make sure the meter is running from the start. Pudong to downtown Shanghai typically costs ¥150–¥200 including the highway toll.

For business travel, book the executive sedan. It’s not just about comfort — it signals professionalism and ensures you arrive at your meeting fresh, not frazzled from a taxi negotiation.

For families, book the MPV or van in advance. These vehicles fill up fast during school holiday periods and major Chinese public holidays. Book at least 48 hours ahead.

Round-trip booking saves time and money. If you know your departure date, book your hotel-to-airport transfer at the same time. It removes one more thing to organize once you’re in Shanghai.
